Our Journey So Far

Hercules was established in the historic Cinque Port of Sandwich in 2005, on the site of the town’s old Hercules Foundry, which is why we have an anvil on our logo. Originally more of a wholesaler, it has since moved to the middle of the town to focus on retail. But its ethos of sourcing delicious, interesting and sometimes hard to find wine remains. In addition to wines we sell carefully selected locally produced spirits, local beers and cider, not to mention cigars.

The town of Sandwich is important to us, and we supply some of our local restaurants, hold tasting evenings, sponsor local events and teams, and even host language classes!

Our Shop

You can find us in the main shopping area of the town, just off the square by the Guildhall. You’ll get a warm welcome and there is usually a bottle or two open to taste, particularly in the run up to the weekend.
Most of our wines are on display at the front of the shop, but don’t miss out on exploring our wine cellar at the back – mind your head though! Take a look at our increasingly popular English wine section on the way!

Our friendly staff will happily offer suggestions, whether you are looking for a special gift or just something to open this evening (or indeed lunchtime!). If you need further inspiration, we also showcase our newest and favourite wines on our blackboard display as you enter the shop.

Our Wine Cellar

Not many people know about our wine cellar, which is tucked away behind the main shop.  Its domed ceiling combined with its cool and dark atmosphere is perfect for wine storage, not to mention giving it a touch of “old French chateau”.  You will find some of our finest wines from across the globe in there.  Please feel free to wander in and explore what it has to offer!

We continually seek to bring in new and interesting wines that complement our existing customer favourites. Whether you’re after a classic red from Bordeaux or Spain, a rosé from Provence, or a refreshing white from South Africa or Germany, we’ll have something for you.

Locally sourced English wine & spirits

We are keen to source wines and spirits from great local producers. We stock a range of wines from Kent, from award winning sparkling wines through to light and fruity reds, with delicious whites and rosés in between.

Kent produced spirits such as gin and vodka are very popular, as is our rum produced down the road in Deal.

We are located in the centre of the town, just off the main square, next door to Costa Coffee. The nearest parking is on New Street itself, with plenty of parking behind thGuildhall. Our shop is also very close the Guildhall bus stop, and five minutes walk from Sandwich train station.
