Mercurey 1er Cru "En Sazenay" 2006 Tupinier-Bautista

Mercurey 1er Cru
The Tupinier family has been active as vignerons in Mercurey since 1770. Manu Bautista is now at the helm of this estate, having taken over from his father in law, Jacques Tupinier in 1997. Manual harvests, low yields, and traditional vinifications are the foundation of his efforts to clarify and translate the essential expression of the domaine’s various parcels throughout the Mercurey appellation. Characterized by a magnificent “bowl” or amphitheatre of vines, Mercurey boasts a diversity of soil structures and exposures, with the potential to produce lively and stony Chardonnay as well as brightly spiced Pinot Noir. The 1er Cru "En Sazenay" comes from a southeast exposed vineyard with 30 – 40 year old vines, just over one hectare in size. The wine is in barrel for 12 months, with 50% in new barrels, and produces a robust but well-mannered red wine that delivers berry fruit and earthy tones and beautiful fine fruit tannins, all encased by a taut acidity that adds great length to an elegant close.
